Please see below and click on the 20-page report full of important information and data related largely to unauthorized immigrants in NM and in this country (11 million strong). Yesterday was Immigrant & Workers Day of Action. Their legislative forum and rally last night was truly inspiring. We are most fortunate to live in a state that is so committed to diversity, inclusiveness, justice, and mutual respect.

Many legislators spoke in Spanish about the legislation they are sponsoring that will help address some of the inequities and needs experienced by our residents. Voices of the frontline workers from across the state about their experiences in this pandemic were especially powerful.

Join us for the release of our latest report

February 11, 2021

Immigrants make innumerable contributions to our state and communities – in the taxes they pay, the economy activity they support, the work they do, the jobs they create, and more. Our latest report, “Strengthening All Communities for a Brighter Future: Full Inclusion of Our Immigrant Population Would Lead to a More Prosperous New Mexico,” takes a look not only at these contributions, but the specific role that many immigrants are playing during the pandemic. Despite these contributions, most government services – including the 2020 federal pandemic relief checks – remain out of reach for many immigrant families. By ensuring that these policies include our immigrant friends and neighbors, we could improve the economy for all.

We’re releasing this report today in conjunction with several partner organizations to coincide with the legislative Immigrant and Workers Day of Action – a virtual rally (live on Facebook) this evening from 6-7pm. The event will include a presentation on this report by one of the authors. Speakers – including Lt. Governor Howie Morales and members of the immigrant community – will also talk about some of the immigrant-inclusive legislation being considered during the session. We hope you will join us in celebrating the immigrant and working community in New Mexico!

You can read the report here and find out more about tonight’s virtual rally via Somos Un Pueblo Unido’s Facebook event here. You can participate in the rally in English or with live Spanish interpretation. See you there!
