Hello!

This is Dakota with the ACLUNM and I wanted to reach out and let you know what’s going on with reproductive rights in New Mexico, upcoming events and any more information that may be useful!

What’s going on in New Mexico?

As you know on June 24th the Supreme Court decided to overturn Roe v. Wade stripping away abortion rights from millions of Americans. While we are not surprised by this decision, it does mean we have to work harder than ever to ensure abortion access is a reality for all New Mexicans. We’re not backing down in this moment and we hope that we can rely on your support and activism now more than ever!

In New Mexico your right to abortion is safe and we will fight to keep it that way. Please join our upcoming events to learn more about what we are doing to help protect your right to abortion in New Mexico.

Upcoming Events:

Join us at noon on July 12 for a virtual town hall to discuss the recent ruling in the Supreme Court case Dobbs v. Jackson Whole Women's Health.

Our reproductive rights team including Reproductive Rights Attorney Elinor Rushforth will discuss the decision, what it means, and what's comes next for abortion rights in New Mexico and across the country. We will answer as many questions as possible, so be sure to include any questions you might have for the team in the RSVP form. We will only consider questions submitted by July 11th at 1 p.m.

Join us on July 18th  from 5:30-7:30pm at Rio Bravo Brewing Company for a discussion about abortion in New Mexico in a post- Roe world in Collaboration with Southwest Women’s Law Center and Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains.

This event will have a panel of experts that will break down the U.S Supreme Court’s decision and what it means for the future of New Mexico Pregnant people. We will also discuss the dangers of Crisis Pregnancy Centers and their role in the anti-abortion movement.

Join us for a reproductive health, rights, and justice activist training in July and August throughout the state!

            Training Dates

·         Las Cruces - July 20 at 5:30 p.m.

·         Albuquerque - August 9 at 5:30 p.m.

·         Santa Fe - August 23 at 5:30 p.m.

During this training, you will learn from experts at the ACLU about how you can more about how you can help us impact the upcoming legislative session to advance and protect access to abortion, contraception, and much more. We will provide you with the resources you need to join the fight for safe and equitable access to reproductive health care for all New Mexicans.
