Hello all,
In reviewing the Governor/WGA Chair's Brand West Housing Report there are many innovative ideas and initiatives put forth from each of the Western Governor's states for creating more housing for all income levels, e.g.: addressing zoning and land use restrictions to facilitate development of multi-family housing projects; supporting low cost housing alternatives such as modular and manufactured housing; and increasing middle housing for middle income renters/homeowners to ease the spillover impact on low income housing, etc. Many of these programs could be replicated in our State.
However, (my editorial comments to follow), ironically, the Governor had the 'nerve' to tout the New Mexico Governor's Office of Housing as a best practice in the Brand West Report, after she fired the Executive Director and closed the Office of Housing and utilized many of the Office's ideas in the Brand West Report. And, as an aside, did not support a bill in the 2025 Legislative Session requesting $450M in funding to go to the NM Mortgage Finance Authority to create urgently needed affordable housing.
Quite disappointing in my opinion... just saying.
Best,
Janie McGuigan
