Hello all,

In reviewing the Governor/WGA Chair's Brand West Housing Report there are many innovative ideas and initiatives put forth from each of the Western Governor's states for creating more housing for all income levels, e.g.:   addressing zoning and land use restrictions to facilitate development of multi-family housing projects; supporting low cost housing alternatives such as modular and manufactured housing; and increasing middle housing for middle income renters/homeowners to ease the spillover impact on low income housing, etc.  Many of these programs could be replicated in our State.

However, (my editorial comments to follow),  ironically, the Governor had the 'nerve' to tout the New Mexico Governor's Office of Housing as a best practice in the Brand West Report, after she fired the Executive Director and closed the Office of Housing and utilized many of the Office's ideas in the Brand West Report.  And, as an aside, did not support a bill in the 2025 Legislative Session requesting $450M in funding to go to the NM Mortgage Finance Authority to create urgently needed affordable housing.
Quite disappointing in my opinion... just saying.

Best,
Janie McGuigan

I just skimmed the housing doc, will read more.  I assume (I hope) she is not talking about Federal land sales.  One of the items we discussed with the SF city manager today was the enormous bureaucratic hurdles to getting anything built in Santa Fe County.  The revised revamped, revolutionized, whatever you want to call it Land Use Code rewrite is due to the City Councilin July.  The manager is (somewhat) optimistic.  b But they still have too any hoos to jump through, plus NIMBYism.  Judy

Housing is one of the focus areas of the Western Governors meeting now and tomorrow. Each of the 5 cabinet secretaries at the conference will be giving a keynote.

Rally participants are advocating for protecting our public lands, our education system and funding, health care, and more.

Linda McMahon is speaking about education policy tonight.
She and Susana held a celebration about keeping transgender people out of women’s sports. Title IX revisions that addressed the issue in an inclusive way were struck from the final version.
