Friends and I were at an incredibly necessary, informational, inspiring and "yes-we-can/yes-we-do" upliftingdiscussion on women in government by NM women in government yesterday.

Subject: THANK YOU to All Our Amici
![]()
Dear Sylvia,
The EQUAL MEANS EQUAL Team would like to thank the more than fifty organizations who rallied within the tight turnaround time last week to become historic amici to the EQUAL MEANS EQUAL v. Trump amicus brief -- successfully filed August 1st, 2025 in Boston federal court. Please click here to see the attached finalized amicus brief with all organizations listed.
We cannot thank our Amici enough for stepping up
and being who they are;
acting with alacrity, courage and will.

If your organization couldn't manage the quick turnaround in order to sign the recent amicus brief, don't despair! We will be filing another amicus brief when the case goes to the U.S. Supreme Court and we will be sure to give you ample time to review it.
At the end of the amicus brief, we included the December 13th, 2024 letter written by Reem Alsalem, United Nations Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women and Girls.
She called on the United States to effect immediate publication of the ERA to the U.S. Constitution. Below is Ms. Alsalem's letter:
"I would like to bring to the attention of your Excellency’s [i.e., the U.S. President] government, a number of concerns regarding information I received and observations I have regarding the lack of publication and incorporation of the Equal Rights Amendment (the ERA) into the United States Constitution as the 28th Amendment, which would significantly advance sex and gender equality for women in the United States of America. The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) requires State Parties, including the United States, which ratified the Covenant in 1992, to guarantee equal enjoyment of all civil and political rights, and to prevent sex discrimination and gender-based violence to ensure equal enjoyment of those rights, under article 2 (non-discrimination), article 3 (equality between men and women) andarticle 26 (equality before the law and equal protection of the law). Additionally, the Human Rights Committee’s general comment No. 28 explains that State Parties are required to “take all steps necessary, including the prohibition of discrimination on the ground of sex, to put an end to discriminatory actions.” Therefore, the United States of America is required to adopt a constitutional sex equality amendment."
We would like to especially thank Bamby Salcedo, President of The TransLatin@ Coalition and Juan Pablo Hernández, Esq., Senior National Coalition Manager of the Coalition for Justice and Equality Across Movements for their outreach to other organizations on our behalf. We are thrilled with the results.❤️
EME's lawyer, Wendy Murphy, will be arguing the case, EQUAL MEANS EQUAL v. Trump, in Boston Federal Court at 2pm EST on September, 15th, 2025. EME President and VP, Kamala and Natalie, will join her in court. Save the date if you would like listen to the oral arguments; we will be providing you with information on exactly how you can do that as we get closer to the date.
And in more good news....😊
Our dear EME teammates Alice Crenshaw and DeeDee Giese have worked hard to provide EQUAL MEANS EQUAL with an unbelievable opportunity. We are truly grateful and hope you will help us spread the word about the Rocket Challenge!
Here, in Alice's own words:
Hi yall! Sorry I have been MIA but I have some HUGE news about the fight for 28.
I recently took a job with Rocket, and EME was selected as one of its Community Challenge Champions. So what does that mean?
The Rocket family of companies not only includes the obvious like Rocket & Redfin, but numerous other financial and entertainment holdings as well; and the man in charge of it all is worth over 30 BILLION and has a real commitment to giving back - and now EME and the ERA are a part of that!
In addition to the page on the official Rocket website, senior leadership matches EVERY DONATION THE LAST WEEK OF THE CHALLENGE (August 19-27) and that includes Dan Gilbert. If we are able to stand out among the organizations participating we have the potential to gain that corporate partner we have been missing and finally put this over the finish line.
I have now spent 3 months in the Rocket family and I can honestly say they REALLY are a “not just for profit” organization. (Shout out to Deedee who got me the job and EME in!) I see it and live it every single day. I truly feel this is that once in a lifetime shot to get someone who not only has power, but gives a damn, involved in this, and more than just money. Icing on the cake is that the entire company is coming together at the start of the last week at our HQ in Detroit for a massive 40th anniversary event. Almost 30,000 of us, including ALL the top leadership August 19-21.
I know we’ve felt this way before, but this IS the moment. We have the numbers in the general public to make REAL change, all that is needed is something we can all get behind - and that thing IS the 28th Amendment. Given what is going on both within the movement and the wider world this is the Hail Mary; and we need to take advantage of having a trusted and recognized brand in our corner. Here’s the link:
