It has been seven years since the Martinez-Yazzie lawsuit (also known as Yazzie-Martinez) ruled that the state has not provided New Mexico’s students with the education they deserved. This spring, the court reaffirmed that the state of New Mexico has yet to meet its constitutional obligation to provide all students with a uniform and sufficient education system they are legally owed.

As a result, the New Mexico Public Education Department and the LANL Foundation are holding regional meetings to gather input for a comprehensive plan to respond to the lawsuit. It’s critical that our communities attend these meetings and center our students. We need our communities’ input so the final plan reflects the solutions our public school system needs to engage, educate, and nurture our children.

Starting today into August 26, meetings will be held throughout the state from 4 PM to 7 PM.

Click the button below for information on the locations and times for all the meetings, including the first three happening tonight in Española, Farmington, and Las Cruces.

Above, you will also find a resource titled "Know Before You Go" that provides guidance for how you can contribute. Your input can help students feel safe, seen, and supported so they are able to learn.

Our students shouldn’t have to wait for the education they deserve.
