Dear Friends,
LULAC and Democracy Defenders Action released the second edition of The Big Lie, La Gran Mentira: Exposing Anti-Immigrant Election Lies. We are releasing it now because the same claim is being pushed again, that immigrants are voting in large numbers and shaping elections. It is not true. The law is clear, the safeguards are in place, and the data is consistent. Ineligible voting is rare and does not affect election outcomes.
But the big lie persists because it serves a purpose. It creates doubt before votes are even cast and sets the stage for new rules that make it harder for eligible Americans to vote. As Congress debates the SAVE America Act, this rhetoric is being used to justify new barriers that fall hardest on communities like ours.
For LULAC, this is not abstract. For nearly a century, we have fought to protect the right to vote for Latino citizens. We have seen how these arguments lead to quiet changes that limit participation. This report is direct. It shows what is false, how the lie spreads, and what is at stake if it goes unchallenged.
We ask you to read it and share it. The right to vote is worn down over time. Our job is to stand our ground and tell the truth.
