Supporters gave the walkers $270 towards the effort to oppose The Escalade development at The Confluence.

Phoenix residents were scrambling to drive a supply of water up to the walkers, who expect to make it to Window Rock on Tuesday, where they will file formal protests against a proposal to build a tourist attraction that would interfere with traditional life and sacred sites at the Confluence of the Grand Canyon. The Hopi Tribal Council has passed a resolution opposing the development, known as The Escalade. Yet, leaders of the Bodaway/Gap chapter, which has oversight over the area, rescinded two prior resolutions voted upon by a majority of the residents opposing the development. The chapter leaders instead called for a re-vote that resulted in very narrow passage of a measure, 59-52, to take 420 acres away from the residents and give it to the developers.

If you want to join somewhere along the journey, help with supplies, host, etc..for now you can call 928-856-1665 or 928-255-7126.

Ahe’hee & Askwali
