Dear Christianne and Chuck,

As you know, New Mexico is less than 20 weeks away from the deadline to notify the Secretary of the Interior whether it will move forward with a Gila River diversion project under the Arizona Water Settlements Act, a plan that would provide less water but would be far more expensive than conservation alternatives.

The New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission (ISC) will begin the decision-making process on August 26 in Albuquerque and is scheduled to make a final decision on the Gila River's fate in November.

Please join us for the ISC's August 26 meeting in Albuquerque to show support for non-diversion alternatives and a wild Gila River. Agenda

The meeting is at 8:30 a.m. on August 26 at Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque. Let's show the commission where New Mexicans stand on preserving the Gila River. If you can't make the entire meeting, come whenever you can make it, except for the lunch hour, 11:25 a.m.-12:25 p.m.

Please also join Gila Conservation Coalition, Rio Grande Chapter and conservation partners for a 7-8 a.m. pre-meeting briefing in the Pueblo Room of the Holiday Inn Express Old Town at 2300 12th St. NW (across the street from the cultural center). Coffee and bagels will be provided.

The Gila Conservation Coalition will be coordinating transportation from Silver City. Please call GCC at 575-538-8078 for more information.

Thank you for your efforts to protect the Gila River!
