Caleb Alexander Fuchs, born April 16, 1993, passed from this life on September 27, 2015 at the age of 22 after suffering cardiac arrest during a soccer game. He was the second of five sons born into the home of Ethan and Dianne Fuchs.
He was an active, determined young man who lived life on purpose. Throughout his life he loved animals, airplanes, rockets, computer building, bicycles, camping, roping, riding, skiing, shooting, guitar playing, baseball, and doing every kind o
f ranch work. He was chosen as the "Walk the Talk" camper at Rodeo Bible Camp. Caleb started competitive road cycling at age 14 and worked his way up through amateur ranks of cycling with a position on Think! Finance team. He achieved his professional goal when he accepted an invitation to the Bissel Pro Development team in 2014. He traveled to many events throughout the United States and won several races. He retired from his professional cycling career in September of 2014 after a cardiac related fainting episode during a road race near Texarkana.
Homeschooled by his parents, he started taking community college classes at age 13. In May of 2015 he graduated suma cum laude in Environmental Engineering from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, with a nearly perfect grade point average. He was selected as the Outstanding Student of the College of Engineering.
Caleb accepted a position at LJA Engineering Inc. in Houston in June of 2015, where he worked in the Hydrology and Hydraulics Group doing land development projects. He passed his Fundamentals of Engineering test in September of 2015.
Known as the "Go To" guy by his family, cycling team members, professors, fellow students, and work associates, Caleb was the one they went to for help with difficult problems. He adopted the family mountain land in Colorado and repaired all the fences each summer.
He was preceded in death by his grandaddy, Hollis Alexander Fuchs. He is survived by his parents, brothers Allyn (and wife Erin), Joel, Seth, and Tyrel, grandparents Joanne Fuchs of Hico, Texas, and Jerry and Darlene Jenkins of Vale, Oregon, aunts Gretchen Fuchs, Becky (Kent) Mahoney, Jean (Gary) Poythress, and Darla (Marshall) Witty, uncles Jay (Wendy) Jenkins and Steve Stein, and all of their families, and cherished girlfriend Kelsey Latta and her family.
Memorial services will be held at the Joanne Fuchs Ranch at mile post 30.5, US Highway 84, ten miles south of Santa Rosa, New Mexico, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2015, with a meal following.
A special "Easy Ride" memorial bike ride will start at Santa Rosa High School parking lot at 11:00 a.m., 344 S 4th St, Santa Rosa, NM 88435.
