I'm throwing in one last annoying voice of support for the XTERRA "Tri the Torture" off-road triathlon out at Glorieta on August 6 (brought to you by the CoreCrew folks who also put on La Tierra Torture and the state mtn bike championships, also held on the Glorieta trails). This is one of the most fun and interesting courses around. The short swim is through, and around their open-water adventure park (2 laps) and the bike is on their awesome custom-crafted trail system with all kinds of flow features and generally fun and forested riding, even taking in a banked pump track.
The run is completely off-road and also quite an adventure, finishing with a climb up the water slide tower and an exciting slide down to the pond and a short swim to the beach. I always think it's a good run for bike riders, as it has a slow (i.e. hiking) climb through some technical trails, and a quick descent back to the finish.
This event is for everyone, and is a great venue to bring the family along to play in their water park. The camping is stellar, with a full-hook up RV park and etc. There's a nice party following the race, complete with food and local beers, etc.
who wants to go for a swim???
