That just plain sucks.    Methinks it is time to switch back to a mini u-lock.   My gun-nut colleagues would argue that this is a good argument for armed citizenry.   An appropriate – but potentially way riskier approach could follow the example here:

On the 10 PM channel 13 news last night they ran a video bit of a bystander who watched and filmed a thief bolt cutting and stealing a bike right outside of the Monte Vista Fire Station in broad daylight.  Nearly deja vu from the last bike steal video posted, only street level with audio!

Somebody needs to put out a bait-bike and nab this crook and whomever he is working with !!!
It is a fairly small area that this guy is working.
