I'm definitely in line with Chandler on this one.  The level of ambiguity of the order (regarding masks and exercising OUTDOORS) leaves it up for interpretation.  It seems that individual exercising away from public places (don't go jogging around busy places) is not really the target of this, but gyms and working out in crowds would qualify...which is understandable.

On the subject of Hawke's event:  as long as it is individual, away from a publicly attended area, and there's plenty of social distancing, I wouldn't even bother considering cancelling it.  For sure, following the protocols should be emphasized as well as using good judgement in terms of spacing.  I highly doubt anyone would see doing this activity, with properly adapted spacing protocols, is a public health hazard.  But, everyone should definitely make those decisions for themselves.  Masks work in close-contact and indoor spaces.

And that's all I have to say 'bout that.

While it is clear riding in groups is going to be frowned upon, though that has been the case for a while now, the squishiness with the new order is the definition of "in public". Hard to see how a solo rider at considerable distance from others presents heightened risk. In fact, take a look at what I found on the CDC website:

"To reduce the spread of COVID-19, CDC recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings when around people outside of their household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain."

My read of that suggests masks offer no incremental protection where social distancing can be maintained. Perhaps using that as part of the argument you send the Gov will go some distance in getting more thoughtful policy.

Best to all,

Thanks Hawke,
I’ll send a letter to the Governor right away. One point to emphasize is our opposition to the “ban on maskless OUTDOOR exercising.”
Thanks,
Geoff
