THE GILA MONSTER GRAN FONDO

Save the date—October 8, 2022—for our next Gila Monster Gran Fondo, presented by Desert Springs Physical Therapy. Come ride like a pro, setting your own goal on a course covering 80, 60 or 30 miles. The Gila Monster Gran Fondo is designed to be fun for all riders, from recreational cyclists to competitive racers. Plan to enjoy your weekend while you become “Gila Proven."
New course for this year’s Gila Monster Gran Fondo
We will be using New Mexico Highway 15 for all three rides. NM 15 is one the of the very best cycling roads in New Mexico.
* Gran Fondo: 80 miles with 9,717 feet of climbing
This ride goes out to the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument Visitor Center and then returns on NM 15 to Pinos Altos, finishing at the historic Buckhorn Saloon & Opera House. The Gran Fondo has seven rest stops.
* Medio Fondo: 60 miles with 7,079 feet of climbing
This ride goes out to the Clinton P. Anderson Overlook (mile marker 32 on NM 15) and returns on NM 15 to Pinos Altos, ending at the historic Buckhorn Saloon & Opera House. The Medio Fondo has five rest stops.
The Nano Fondo: 30 miles with 2,869 feet of climbing
This ride will begin at 10:00 am in Pinos Altos, in front of the historic Buckhorn Saloon & Opera House. The ride goes out to the rest stop at Wild Horse Mesa and returns on NM 15 to the Buckhorn. The Nano Fondo has one rest stop.
- Gran Fondo and Medio Fondo begin at 9:00 am at Gila Hike & Bike, 103 E. College Ave. in Silver City. The first mile, to NM 15, is a neutral zone.
Ride rest stops include drinking water, energy drinks and foods, and portable toilets, as well as extra tubes and inflation. A sag wagon will follow each ride, and will also have water, tubes and inflation.
Your registration includes an After-Ride Party and Award Ceremony from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Buckhorn Saloon & Opera House, a 10%-off coupon for dinner that night at the Buckhorn, two free beers or soft drinks at the Buckhorn, an event water bottle, and an event t-shirt. We will be awarding Mimbres Trophy Bowls to the top three male and female finishers in each of the three rides, as well as to the oldest and youngest male and female finishers of any race that day.
The entry fee is $90 per person from now to July 31, and $100 per person from August 1 to September 30. After October 1, the entry fee will be $110 per person.
Rider packet pick-up will be on Friday, October 7, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Gila Hike & Bike, 103 E. College Ave. Late packet pick-up and late registration will be available at Gila Hike & Bike at 7:00 am on October 8. Gila Hike & Bike will be open at 7:00 am, for those needing their tires inflated, or other last-minute bike adjustments.
