Dear NM Bike racers,

The autumn weather has made a very quick turn and the forecast for rain and freezing temperatures has moved us to postpone the event until June 2023 (our original date before the roads were closed due to forest fire concerns).

Additionally, many of us in the ZiaVelo Community are struggling with the recent passing of good friends and bicycle advocates -- Martyn Pearson and Alex Olsen. Martyn and Alex were two prominent figures in the Silver City biking community. They were the owners of Gila Hike & Bike in Silver City and have supported ZV riders for years. On Friday, October 28th, 2022, they tragically lost their lives in a car accident on their way to a NICA event in ABQ.

As the organizers of the Cloudcroft event, we have decided to use the race registration as an opportunity to fundraise for and donate the race registration to a fund for the Pearson/Olsen family needs. I have consulted with Chris Schlabach - previous Gila Hike & Bike owner - and asked if he thought a fundraising effort would be of use and appropriate at this time. He approved of this suggestion. Therefore, if you choose to register for the Cloudcroft event - recognizing the postponement of the event - (https://www.bikereg.com/ziavelo-fall-classic) your registration fee will be entirely donated to the family fund.

Thank you for being cyclists (a unique and tight community in New Mexico),

David Rutledge
