Riders,

Now that it’s insufferably hot in town, consider joining us for the Wednesday night crest climb. Yes, the crest is still there and the ride is still happening. We’ve had as many as a dozen people come out recently and we always welcome more.  Its a good ride if you are looking for something mid-week and want at least a few people looking out for you if you’ve got a mishap. It’s also the best place to do longer intervals or yell at wildlife. I particularly enjoy screaming at the deer.

The road has been repaved from mile 8.5 to 11 but, the rest is still pretty chewed up. So this year may not be the best one to go for a PR on the descent. The omnipresent deer and drivers stopping to take pictures of them also pose a danger on the way down, so stay focused.

It still eventually gets cool and dark so don’t forget a jacket and a light if you plan on going for the summit. The light is mainly so motorists can see you when you’re bombing back down. Forecast looks warm mostly sunny.

Join us for food afterwards at the Greenside cafe.

Hope to see you out there,

Wednesday Night Crest Climb Details

The location for parking, and group start time, is the same as the last few years.  The “old triangle grocery” parking lot is on the northwest corner of hwy 536 (crest road) and N hwy 14, catty corner from the Shell station and Lazy Lizard grill.  If you are not able to make the 5:30 group start, come and start when you can or just join for socializing, food, and drink at the Greenside café in Cedar Crest (immediately south of Triangle Grocery) after the ride.

Guidelines for this weekly fun ride:

Everybody welcome

Ride safely and at your own pace

Carry extra warm layers for the descent, including full fingered insulated gloves (very important for April/May)

Ride as far up as you want and descend carefully

Look out for and help your fellow riders when necessary

Gather for refreshments and good cheer at Greenside café afterwards

Please send me email addresses to add or remove from this list.
