Dear NM cyclists and racers,

I'm writing to provide an update and plans going forward for the race being presented by ZiaVelo cycling.

We are planning on having our road race on Saturday, April 12 in the town of Hillsboro, New Mexico. We will finish on the top of Emory Pass.

This year we are planning the time trial for Sunday, April 13th. The time trial will be in an area near Truth or Consequences, New Mexico in Engler, New Mexico (see map).

This road is a north-south road and in good condition. There is very limited traffic and the potential for more participants is increased because people can attend coming in from either El Paso or Albuquerque without far more additional travel. Hillsboro is about 45 minutes from the time trial location by car.

We have moved the time trial from the location in Las Cruces because of the increased traffic produced by two large diesel truck gas stations that were built over the last year (Love's and Allsup's).

I have also spoken with RyanTravelsted because he has a gravel race in Socorro on the same Sunday. The goal was to allow people to participate in the road race on Saturday and then the gravel race on Sunday or the time trial. There are many other events occurring in different parts of the southwest and this weekend was the one that allowed the most flexibility and allowed us to have volunteers available.

I had reached out to the spaceport Authority to see if we could use their facility and they wanted a substantial financial commitment. More than what we would ever be able to meet while maintaining reasonable race fees (~$6,000).

More information is forthcoming and I hope this gets you started in your planning.
