My name is Annie Jane Burns, and I am the Treasurer and fundraising coordinator for the Kappa Kappa Psi, Gamma Iota Chapter at UNM. We have met before, and a couple members of our chapter came and played with you guys for your football game Ryan invited us to, and we also helped you guys out at the APS band exhibition!
Kappa Kappa Psi is a National Honorary Co-Ed Band Service Fraternity. We are an organization that primarily operates in the field of the university band programs by providing service and leadership opportunities to the ensembles and their members. We also do work outside of ourselves and in the community and one of our primary goals is to help out the local high school band programs.
We are interested in doing a marketplace fundraiser with your band program. The goal of this is to raise money to support both of our organizations. A marketplace is where a bunch of different vendors come together and sell their goods. We collect part of their profits from the day (5-10%) and then they also pay a small booth fee to set up. We would split the profits 75/25, the 75 going to your band. This has been used at other schools here and it is successful and we would like to try implementing it because we want to help your guys program as well. In terms of a location, we were wondering if there was a possibility to host the marketplace in Highland gymnasium, if this doesn’t work, we can look into other possibilities. Kappa Kappa Psi would be in charge of finding vendors, securing deposits, and coordinating music between our chapter and your band (us learning your guys’ music and other pieces we both agree on). I also have a form already that can be used and sent out to vendors, and it also makes us and your band program exempt from liability issues. Besides offering a possible location to host, your program would only be in charge of helping to find a few vendors also.
We would love to come to a Booster meeting to present this and answer any further questions. We believe this fundraiser will not only be fun, but mutually beneficial to both organizations. Please let me, and the rest of us here know what you think of this proposal. Feel free to email me back at: ajburns@unm.edu or you could call at (360)788-3078!
Thank you so much,
Annie Jane Burns
