LWVCNM members - I have served as the LWV Observer to the Valley CPC since 2016.  Rowan Wymark, CPC Co-Chair, provided this information regarding the Use of Force by APD Officers January 2021:

Please see attached APD's use of force report for January.  The three UOF categories actually mean:

Level 1 is force that is likely to cause only transitory pain, disorientation, and/or discomfort during its application as a means of gaining compliance.

Level 2 is force that causes injury, could be reasonably expected to cause injury. or results in a complaint of injury

Level 3 is force that results in, or could reasonably result in, serious physical injury, hospitalization, or death.

You'll notice that two of the force this month occurred in the Prisoner Transportation Center. This is the first time we've heard of such an incident and therefore we assume it's unusual.

Please note that Chief of Police is appointed by Mayor Keller and Civilian Police Oversight Agency reports to the ABQ City Council.  The SE APD Command includes the International District.

Those desiring to learn more about CABQ progress in selecting new APD Chief can view all related information including applications of 3 remaining  candidates and recorded 1/23/21 interview of the 3 candidates at www.cabq.gov and type "Police Chief search" in search bar.
