Facebook's demand for clean energy was a big reason why the ETA passed. Solar and wind with batteries is not more expensive in the long run. PNM just won't own the resources and the shareholders make money from the guaranteed ROI on the capital investments.

Great news about Facebook asking only for renewable energy and PNM being able to provide it, George. Thanks for sharing the news.

Subject: [Lwvcnmtopics] NM PRC meeting on June 16

  [EXTERNAL]

The meeting today dealt with PNM and its contracts involving Face Book's Los Lunas facility.  PNM is installing Battery Storage at the facility and also a contract for Purchased Power.

While batteries currently have a life of only four hours, shortly batteries with four day storage will be available.  PNM will be able to buy the stored power if appropriate to its own power needs.

Importantly, at today's meeting PNM shared that Face Book wanted to buy clean energy so that only solar or wind would work for them.  While more expensive, as PNM did have spare capacity,  Face Book opted for no coal generated electricity.

PNM, on PRC approval, will be able to use the stored power and refill batteries from solar or wind.

Face Book has made a major contribution for clean energy in NM.
