All voting members of LWVCNM are welcome to run in the April 20, 2024 election for three officers and three directors, all of which are two-year posts on LWVCNM’s Board of Directors.  If you would like to nominate yourself or any other member for any of the posts described below, please contact Ellen Kelly at telbg66@yahoo.com by January 25, 2024.

Under LWVCNM’s by-laws, which are attached, LWVCNM’s  nominating committee should make its report to the Board by March 6th 2024.  The by-laws also allow nominations for Board members to be made from the floor at the annual meeting.

Thanks from the Nominating Committee for considering membership on the Board.

The open Board posts are as follows:

The 2nd Vice President currently acts as Membership Chair.  The responsibilities of the Chair include maintaining the LWVCNM membership list, in cooperation with the Office Manager and Treasurer; updating the national League database (to include new members, inactive members and changes in contact information); reporting on membership activities to the Board each month, including new member outreach; preparing, publishing and distributing the member handbook to all members each year; mailing a packet of information to new members, and mailing membership renewal reminders each year, followed by reminder emails and phone calls.

The 3rd Vice President currently acts as the Program Planner, and is responsible for LWVCNM’s role in determining new League positions. The director also is a liaison to the State Program Planning and keeps track of major LWVUS new positions or position updates.   More specifically, the Program Planner conducts an annual meeting in which members can recommend which  governmental issues LWVCNM should study.  The director then determines if a committee should and can be formed at the local level with the goal of reaching a position on the issue, or if the recommendation would be better addressed at the state or national level. The coordinator also oversees League studies on local issues, and keeps the membership informed about ongoing studies conducted at the state and national levels.

The Treasurer’s essential duties are defined by Article V, Section 5 of  the by-laws.  The  treasurer receives and disburses funds for the League by depositing funds in the bank, paying bills, maintaining the bulk mailing permit, maintaining the chapter’s financial records, and arranging for audits.

The duties of the other three elected Board members are set by the Board.  Currently:

The Director of Voter Services is responsible for coordinating the activities of the LWVCNM voter registrars, and for supervising voter education about changes in election laws and voting requirements. This director also helps arrange candidate and issue forums, and to supply moderators and time-keepers for forums.

The Calendar/Event Planning Coordinator oversees all events, both regularly scheduled and miscellaneous ones, with advice and assistance from other LWVCNM members, including the              Board.  Regularly scheduled events include the annual meeting, monthly educational programs, happy      hours, book club, meet-and-greets for new members, and the holiday open house.

The Board plans to have the third director act as Historian for LWVCNM, so LWVCNM’s archives will be updated continuously.
