Former U.S. Senator Fred Harris, a member emeritus of our Board of Directors, is receiving an honorary doctorate from UNM this year. He is also featured in the PBS Documentary Riot Report about his role as key author of the Kerner Commission report. As you may recall from the talk Fred gave for us a few years back ("History Repeats," which you can view here), Fred is the last surviving member of the Commission. In addition, the UNM Political Science Department is creating an Endowment for the Fred Harris Congressional Internship Program so that a more diverse group of students can afford to live in Washington, DC, for a semester.
