DID YOU KNOW?

Redistricting has become national issue. By now you have probably received numerous emails on the topic from LWVNM and LWVUS. Please read these emails to better understand where the League stands.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued a revised policy guidance on August 29, stating that “only state and local election officials will be permitted to offer voter registration services at the end of administrative naturalization ceremonies.” As numerous Leagues around the country, including ours, have helped with registering new citizens after naturalization ceremonies, the National League issued a press release. Our League Voter Services group is constantly engaging new citizens and potential new voters to defend democracy, and that will not be affected by this ruling.

Our emails have been sent to municipal election candidates for this year’s election. Encourage your candidate, whether incumbents already in office, or candidates who want to be in office, to respond to our invitation to answer our questions. They can call or send email to vote411@lwvcnm.org if they have questions. This includes candidates not only in our four counties (Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance, and Valencia), but also in the other four counties we have agreed to cover for this election – Catron, Cibola, McKinley, and Socorro.
