While we already have several volunteers callers, we are still looking for members to help with calls to candidates, and possible distribution locations for the Voter Guide for the upcoming general election.  If you can help out with the candidate or location calls, please let me (Ellen Kelly) know at telbg66@yahoo.com or 505 440-8931.

We want to give everyone a chance to help with these calls, even if you have time to make only a few, since the calls are at the heart of getting critial candidate information to voters.  During September, we'll also looking for volunteers for activities like proof-reading and the all-important distribution of the Voter Guide, so please keep an eye on the Monday "Hot Topics" emails for more details about those tasks.

The details:

1. Calls to all candidates to be made aroud August 10-12, and fewer follow-up calls a week later

Our experience is that making the first calls within a day or two of the invitation emails (plus follow-up calls to candidates who haven't answered yet), makes it much more likely that candidates will participate in the guide.  So starting on or close to August 10, we expect to email individual invitations to 127 candidates in Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance and Valencia counties, seeking their responses for the Voter Guide.  We need volunteers to call all of the candidates at least once: a minority of them will need follow-up calls (to be made by the same LWV volunteer) if they haven't responded within a week.  Callers will get the list of candidates to call no later than a few days before August 10, along with a list of the points to cover and an outline of a script, in case that's helpful.

2.  Calls to locations willing to have printed guides on hand for customers and members, probably to be made the last week of August and September 1-4.

We expect to distribute approximately 28,000 printed copies of the Bernalillo/Sandoval guide in early October for the general election, , and about 3,000 of the Torrance/Valencia guide.  In addition to libraries and community centers, these guides went to about 140 locations in the four counties, for distribution to business customers or organization members.  We need to call all of them, to see how many they want for the general election and to get delivery details, like the best delivery times and locations. Callers will get the list of places to call and any contact information we have, along with a list of the points to cover.
