 Thank you for your comment Mr. Wengrod;
You are right about encouraging businesses to return to Nob Hill.  It is a great challenge and the recent news about Scalo 's  coming back under new ownership is great news for all of us.Like you , I don't want to stand in the way of business or progress. Being a business owner myself outside of Nob Hill,  I don't want to encourage more obstacles to businesses coming in.  We currently have a collaborative relationship with Main Street who's charter is to help vitalize existing businesses and provide assistance to new Nob Hill businesses.
The only concern I have for any establishment is the violation of noise ordinances since the neighborhood is in such close proximity to the businesses. In addition, when liquor is encouraged at late hours , there is a higher probability for disorder and crime.  An example of this was the shooting of one of our UNM Athletes at  Imbibe.Again,  I believe our NHNA B.O.D.  is working diligently to see Nob Hill thrive again.  We appreciate Neighbors like yourself communicating with us as to what you believe is best for Nob Hill.
Best Regards,
Lucille Long

 Dr Wengrod & all
The suggestion that we bring back locally owned retail to Nob hill is a discussion that has had many iterations. A bit of history:  beginning in the late ‘80’s many of us ( many women) began investing in NH through small business efforts. I think the first was Mark and Jean with Double Rainbow. Then came Ken’s Hats, Martha Doster with Body Bueno and way to many more to name. My husband and I opened Celebro Clothing in ‘91. We took great pride in our neighborhood, working with ACVB to put us on the map, creating special neighborhood events for business and  residents to celebrate our historic area, improving our storefronts and partnering with NHNA multiple ways.
The economic downturn in 2008 was the beginning of the end of the vibrancy. Many including Celebro closed by 2010.  Follow that with discount online sales, the devastation brought upon Central Ave by the former city admin and changes in zoning with appts and storage units being  built plus liquor licenses given out like candy and you have Nob Hill in its present iteration.
Like anything in life we can’t go back to the past. As romantic as it seemed to my loyal customer base I wouldn’t wish the challenges of business ownership on anyone.
I hope we find a way out of this impasse. I doubt though that it will be through an influx of small biz. If anything it will hopefully be cool chains that care about the neighborhood.
If you have any ideas please share. Thanks.

My name is Jacob Fox, and I am really excited to be a contributor towards the revitalization of Nob Hill as a neighborhood hopefully for years to come!

We also do not particularly enjoy those activities as people, so it felt awkward and inappropriate for us to keep it as a function of Nob Hill Bar and Grill as a business.
>>

Craft cocktails are something that we are super passionate about, and new mexicans only have a few places in the state that are executing really delicious and balanced cocktails on a world-class level. Needless to say, these products that we intend to serve would attract a different clientele than a night club would, and we hope it will provide a venue for people to connect and build our community in rather than a venue that negatively impacts the neighbor?s quality of life.
