I am more concerned with getting rid of the parking meters in Nob Hill.
They are killing the businesses that are trying to survive.
They make NO sense to me.

Nob Hill Neighbors,
Your association received the attached notice of request for transfer of
liquor license location late last week. Hearing is July 8.
When we receive these we send them to our email list to gather input. When
input is neutral or positive we generally don't develop an association
position. When neighbors express questions or concerns we seek the
information. If there is strong concern, we call a special board meeting to
explore developing an association position.
I called the agent, Kyla Stoker. She said the operators of the business are
Michael Burdick and Renato Burdick. They operated the Sidewinder's business
on Central east of Wyoming starting in 2017. She said they did not receive
any alcohol service citations. They wanted a new location.
She provided the attached menu which they are now serving at 4200 Central
Ave. with no alcohol.
She said current hours are noon-9 pm. Once allowed by governmental
authorities they will be open noon-2am. (She said hours of operation are not
part of the liquor license transfer of location.)
Feel free to call Ms. Stoker. I told her about our email list so she may
address questions here on the email list.
Feel free to provide written comments to the hearing officer or attend the
hearing whether the association takes a position or not.

Hi Gary and Neighbors,
I don't know a lot about business, but my
gut reaction is that I would strongly prefer to NOT have this type of
business at this address.
While they may have had no liquor citations,
it will be open too late and, from all appearances, be a nightclub.
"They want a new location" means Sidewinders, with large crowds, right
in our residential area. The problems with the other nightclub (nearer
the University) strongly suggests this is a wrong direction for our
neighborhood quality of living.

I strongly disagree; Sidewinders is a culturally vital business. There are
very few places available to non-straight persons to socialize, and
Sidewinders has always been a safe place. They have also caused no
disturbances, and have provided not only a way to socialize without feeling
like one is in a meat market (which is the implication I personally glean
from the seemingly derisive use of "nightclub" above), but also a much
needed performance venue for many local artists. To compare Sidewinders to
the thankfully defunct and notoriously dangerous Imbibe is to woefully
misunderstand the nature of Renato and Michael's business, and to woefully
misunderstand the needs of an entire segment of our local community.
Incidentally, if anyone actually looks at a map, there are two private
clubs and one bar already in the immediate area. Adding one more place
with an established history of not being disruptive to their local
neighborhood and that brings a genuinely supportive clientele to the
neighborhood can only be a bonus.

My thoughts from a business perspective is that empty buildings are hot
spots for crime, homelessness and vandalism. I would prefer to have local
owners who will work with us on issues as opposed to a vacant building with
out of state owners. The Albuquerque Social Club caters to a similar
clientele and I have never heard of any problems from them. Local business
is what we want and need. I would encourage a meeting before any
opposition. Thank you for listening.

I do not typically reply all, but need to say that I am in strong favor of
Sidewinders being welcomed into our neighborhood. They are not simply
another liquor license. This is a long-running Albuquerque business that is
a cultural institution to all members of the LGBT community (and straight
allies).
This will be such a great addition to our neighborhood. We should be proud
they chose the Nob Hill area, and welcome them with open arms.
One perk of having a popular business open and flourishing (rather than an
empty building "for lease") is having eyes on the street. I would much
rather walk on Central knowing that there are others around.

Albuquerque Social Club is still open, but they allow smoking indoors so
it?s not really a good option for many lgbt people. I will say they do have
good air circulation though, for a smoking friendly place.
The new Sidewinders 4200 location is bright and open, it has a patio that
faces Central like O?Neills pub does (but much smaller), and a large
dedicated parking lot.
Here are some of the activities typical of Sidewinders- so you know it?s
not similar to Imbibe: Country dancing, drag shows, competitive pageants, a
ton of community fundraisers, etc. and yes, beer, wine and cocktails. The
owners are regularly there and are very present in the community.
For those of you who are on the fence, I hope you can see why it?s not
just another nightclub.

I usually only reply to the full audience when something seems askew. I fully support Sidewinders new location in our Nob Hill neighborhood.
We have lived in our house on Aliso SE for over 20 years and seen all of the ups and downs of Nob Hill. Sidewinders is a long established bar and grill and has been a keystone for the LGBT Community many years. The Albuquerque Social Club is not an acceptable venue for many because they still allow smoking indoors. This may bring some hope of re-building another social cornerstone in the best neighborhood/area in town (in my opinion). I have already eaten a the new Sidewinders twice in the past 4 weeks and the food is really excellent.
Many of you are opposed to bars, because of the many stated reasons. This is not an Imbibe and is uninformed to even compare. We actually live 4 blocks from the new location.
As a long-time business person, seeing all of the closed up businesses/buildings in Nob Hill is sad. Add crime, A.R.T. and COVID19, and Nob Hill will need more than a ventilator to keep it alive.
I hope Nob Hill will be on the right side of history when we support a locally owned LGBT business and all get through these struggling times together. Please don?t continue to live in fear of the unknown and growth.

I agree wholeheartedly with Nicole. What an honor to have Sidewinders move
to Nob Hill, especially in the old Martini Grill space.
Nob Hill is thankfully always evolving. I encourage that we embrace our new
neighbors & welcome them to the diverse place that is Nob Hill.

central avenue is not a residential neighborhood, it is a business district
meant to serve the surrounding neighborhood, which has a long history of
diversity and acceptance. that location has been a nightclub/ restaurant
since hector was a pup, and was part of a culture of gay friendly
businesses in east nob hill that made a unique and vital contribution to
the city before developers and ill conceived bus projects crashed the area.

I also don't usually jump in, but, i went to Sidewinders a couple times for events and would enjoy them more if they we're located in Nob Hill. The LBGTQ+ community is well loved in our community and they/we deserve a classy location where they/we feel welcome and affirmed.

While they may have had no liquor citations, it will be open too late and, from all appearances, be a nightclub. "They want a new location" means Sidewinders, with large crowds, right in our residential area. The problems with the other nightclub (nearer the University) strongly suggests this is a wrong direction for our neighborhood quality of living.

When we receive these we send them to our email list to gather input. When input is neutral or positive we generally don?t develop an association position. When neighbors express questions or concerns we seek the information. If there is strong concern, we call a special board meeting to explore developing an association position.
I called the agent, Kyla Stoker. She said the operators of the business are Michael Burdick and Renato Burdick. They operated the Sidewinder?s business on Central east of Wyoming starting in 2017. She said they did not receive any alcohol service citations. They wanted a new location.
She provided the attached menu which they are now serving at 4200 Central Ave. with no alcohol.
She said current hours are noon-9 pm. Once allowed by governmental authorities they will be open noon-2am. (She said hours of operation are not part of the liquor license transfer of location.)
Feel free to call Ms. Stoker. I told her about our email list so she may address questions here on the email list.
Feel free to provide written comments to the hearing officer or attend the hearing whether the association takes a position or not.
