New Mexico has begun its 2021 redistricting process, and the new Citizen Redistricting Committee, established by state law this spring, is holding its first round of public meetings to collect community input on redrawing district maps for the US Congress, NM State Senate and NM House of Representatives, and the NM Public Education Commission. A second round of public meetings will follow in late September - early October. In late October, the CRC will submit proposed district maps to the State Legislature for its consideration, changes and adoption.

The CRC website and meeting schedule is found at https://www.nmredistricting.org/

You can attend CRC meetings and provide the Committee with information about how they can prepare maps that reflect communities of interest, and you can even draw your own maps (by hand or with computer software) and submit them to the CRC for its consideration.

You may recall that the Legislature and the Governor could not agree on NM legislative district maps in 2011, and redistricting was done by a state district court judge, who split the Nob Hill neighborhoods and community into two separate NM State House districts.

Please consider participating in this critically important redistricting process. The more the CRC hears from New Mexicans, the better the final district maps will truly reflect the people who live in these districts.

Thanks,
