Redistricting Committee Invites Public to Next Meeting

The 2022 Redistricting Committee’s next meeting is Wednesday, April 6 at 5:30 PM and the public is invited and encouraged to participate. Every 10 years, the City Charter requires that the Council appoint a committee composed of an equal number of representatives from each Council District to review and make recommendations regarding redistricting the Council Districts based on information from the Federal Census. The Committee is tasked with using the population data from the official 2020 U.S. Census along with any other pertinent information to make a report recommending changes in the Council District boundaries that the Committee decides are necessary based on constitutional principles governing voting rights, population, compactness, and other related factors. Senior Tech Connect Event for 50+ Friday, April 1

Sign Up for Neighborhood Cleanup Now in April

Join the City’s Solid Waste Management Department and Keep Albuquerque Beautiful now in April for the annual One Albuquerque Cleanup Month. Gather a group of friends or neighbors and register to clean up your neighborhood, park, or other area that needs it in honor of Earth Month. There are four Saturdays in a row of cleanups scheduled all over the City. Each quadrant is assigned its own Saturday for a cleanup day starting April 9 and running through April 30. Solid Waste will provide each group that registers with garbage bags and gloves for their cleanup. SHARPS Needle Disposal Training Available Through City Environmental Health

Did you know that the City's Environmental Health Department offers free SHARPS needle pickup and disposal training? If your neighborhood has been wanting to organize a needle pickup, this is a great time to do it. The training lasts approximately one hour. Free De-Escalation Training Hosted by ACS and Bernco HEC

The Bernalillo County Health Health Equity Council (HEC) and the Albuquerque Community Safety Department (ACS) are co-hosting free Community De-Escalation Trainings for the public. These virtual trainings are geared toward anyone interested in being a Volunteer Community Responder or someone willing to engage with community members in distress or crisis. This may be as simple as giving someone a bottle of water on a hot day, or talking with someone to assess if they need to be in community with someone else, or of they are in need of additional resources.The next virtual De-Escalation training takes place Saturday, April 2, 9:00a-11:30am. Hoffmantown Neighborhood Featured in "Neighborhoods At a Crossroad" Film Series Premier This Saturday

The public is cordially invited to the sixth installment of the series Neighborhoods at a Crossroads featuring the Hoffmantown Neighborhood. This latest episode premieres at a public screening this Saturday, April 2 at the Tony Hillerman Library. The new 30-minute documentary featuring historian Robert Wood and several former and current residents of the neighborhood tells the story of how Hoffmantown came to be, what it was like growing up there, and the challenges it faces today. Previous pieces focused on the Martineztown, Barelas, Alamosa, Thomas Village, and Wells Park neighborhoods. Tony Hillerman Library is located at 8205 Apache NE. International District Seeking Volunteers for Tree Planting in April

The International District neighborhoods are seeking volunteers to help with tree planting in late April. The tree planting is in conjunction with the Tree New Mexico initiative. Tree New Mexico provides instructions ahead of time, tools, maps to the tree planting location, and basic tree planting guidance. At the location, the hole is dug, the tree to be planted and mulch is nearby, and the resident provides a hose and water.

ONC Hosting Virtual Lunch and Learn Training on Handling Neighborhood Conflict This Thursday

The Office of Neighborhood Coordination (ONC) invites the public to attend their upcoming virtual Lunch and Learn: Strategies For Managing Neighborhood Conflict, on Thursday, March 31, 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Dr. Rudy Garcia, EdD, will provide this timely training on handling neighborhood conflict. This training provides attendees with the knowledge necessary in handling conflict between neighbors. Conflict is not easy to deal with and learning how to handle it can result in positive ways to solve issues. Learning how to manage conflict and channel its energy in a positive way creates success for all parties involved in the conflict. Four types of conflict will be identified in the training: personal; subject or issue; procedural; and competitive. This 2-hour training session will include handouts for attendees and the opportunity to join the panel and ask questions.
