In October 2014, the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics launched a national call for “Commitments to Action.”

President Obama challenged the public and private sectors to make meaningful and quantifiable contributions to expand and support the educational outcomes and opportunities for the Latino community.

Bernalillo County resident Dr. Peggy Chavez submitted a proposal and was the only New Mexican accepted out of the 150 Commitments to Actions selected.

Bernalillo County is establishing a pilot program to implement Dr. Chavez’s educational initiative.
