Re: Comcast Rant
I also had gotten so frustrated with the poor service, slow speed and constantly increasing costs I switched to Century Link.  Amazing difference!  Speed is now always at around 40 MPBS, compared to Comcast which sometimes slowed down to 13!  I also called and got the "customer loyalty discount" after my initial year's discount.  Century Link also has nice, knowledgeable, prompt customer service people as opposed to Comcast.  I am most glad that I switched  to Century Link because of the consistent signal, no more crashing at times of day when lots of people are online like with Comcast.
I cut the cable tv entirely, got a $20 antenna which gets me all the local network stations, a bunch of PBS stations, Spanish language stations, tons of stations that show old movies and tv shows and adds new channels regularly.  My only expense for this is the initial $20 cost of the antenna!  I understand that folks in more isolated areas don't get so many channels, but here in the city it is great.

James,

Thanks for speaking up.  Comcast has been a source of angst for me for years. I spend hours getting my cable plan right sized and affordable as possible and within months they hike my rates again and I?m not talking about their introductory rates. After a few years of this I cancelled everything except the high speed internet, gave up cable programming, and am only using Netflix and Plex and amazon for my shows (which by the way the program options far exceed those of comcast).  Now my Comcast internet service is constantly having problems resulting in my spending hours on the phone with their tech support and many technician visits, some of which they schedule incorrectly.  And my monthly rates/their prices keep inching up. I?m on my second modem in two months and have been having to reset it 3-6 times per day for the last 4-6 weeks.  Everytime I call their tech support they try to upsell me on their bundled services (while my existing service with them isn?t working!!!). T!
oday I finally took the time to explore alternative providers and found that CenturyLink can provide high speed internet to the nob hill area so I signed on with them hoping to never see another Comcast bill again after this last one.  Comcast sucks as a company and their services are over-priced and are not reliable.  I?d like to see them banned from the state (actually I?d like to see them go out of business they are heartless, ruthless, and greedy).  Thanks for opening the door for me to rant.

I also 'cut the cable' and 'got rid of satellite'.  I had used Comcast, and
got very tired of their 'customer no-service' and very high prices.  I used
DirecTV for a couple of years, but after the incentives ended, so did the
lower prices.  I now use CenturyLink for my internet service.  I'm in Nob
Hill and CenturyLink recently upgraded so my internet connection is 40
Mpbs.  I call them once each year, and they give me a loyalty bonus so my
bill is about $20 per month.  For my TV, I have an indoor non-amplified
HDTV antenna.  I pick up all of the network channels crystal clear.  Some
friends in the Heights have a problem in that they do not have a clear line
of sight to the transmission towers on Sandia Peak.  I also purchased a
Roku streaming player.  There many free channels including lots of old
movie channels.  I love sports, so I do subscribe to Sling.  I pay under
$30 per month and get ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TMC, AMC, History, History 2, A&E
and quite a few more basic cable networks.  I cannot record programs.  I am
told that there are devices I can purchase, but I have not found the need
to do that.

Yeah, good luck!  APD doesn't patrol at all.  They can barely respond to clean up the mess.

An effective PD runs a lot of traffic stops.

Good grief!  I have Century LInk for a basic land line phone without long distance and internet only and am charged $80/mo!!  Tell me what you say when you call them as I would like a loyalty bonus of $20/mo.  I am being taken!    I wish the city would come up with a quick internet service for the city like I've read other cities do.  Albuquerque would certainly benefit.

I simply called CenturyLink customer service and asked for a discount.  The
person who took my call give me the discount effective the next day.  I
said that I'd been a customer for a few years and was there any 'loyalty
discount'.  It was that simple.  I don't have a landline.  The only service
I have from CenturyLink is internet.  I have a 40 Mpbs connection and my
monthly bill for the next 12 months is $19.99 plus tax.  I have a reminder
set on my online calendar to call CenturyLink before the discount expires
to get it extended for another year.  No contract required.

Do you know what the number is you call?  I've been with them since when it was AT&T, Quest, now Century Link.

I called the CenturyLink billing & general customer service number.  The
very first person I spoke with, I asked about a customer loyalty discount.
I was not transferred.  I might have been put on hold for a little, but no
transfers.  That person gave me the discount and then sent me a confirming
email.  I've done this twice, just over a year ago, and then again just
over a month ago.

Good info!  I?m a first time CenturyLink customer and I will be paying 29.95 a month plus the modem rental 8.95 a month (unless i buy it outright). It sounds from the posts here that i could have pushed for a better deal but honestly i was so happy to be able to fire comcast and it?s still less than half of what i was paying comcast so i?m happy for now. but i?ll certainly ask for a loyalty discount once they?ve earned my loyalty :-)

Today I finally took the time to explore alternative providers and found that CenturyLink can provide high speed internet to the nob hill area so I signed on with them hoping to never see another Comcast bill again after this last one.  Comcast sucks as a company and their services are over-priced and are not reliable.  I?d like to see them banned from the state (actually I?d like to see them go out of business they are heartless, ruthless, and greedy).  Thanks for opening the door for me to rant.

Can anyone out there help here with that information?  Thanks.

For Comcast?s many non-fans, ex-Mayor Jim Baca posted on his blog a link to the city?s survey on cable/internet service. Here?s the link to that blog posting: http://onlyinnewmexico.blogspot.com/2015/12/the-city-of-albuquerque-is-getting.html<http://onlyinnewmexico.blogspot.com/2015/12/the-city-of-albuquerque-is-getting.html>

Also, someone mentioned what some cities - not this one - are doing about obtaining reliable and genuinely high-speed internet. Here?s a link about that: https://fiber.google.com/newcities/<https://fiber.google.com/newcities/>
