Hi,
Cherokee stops by Immanuel Presbyterian in cycles. Currently we've not seen her for awhile. She will sometimes give us money and occasionally leaves food. Last time we saw her she asked for a blanket for a friend. We got a blanket but neither Cherokee nor the friend have been by to get it. I regret we have no safe place for sleeping. It's too exposed.

Can you help?

You've probably seen Cherokee, the homeless woman who has walked our neighborhood wrapped in a blanket and with newspaper and plastic around her feet for the last 20-30 years.  She has spent the last few months sleeping in the side yard of the house on the corner of Campus and Berkeley (Monte Vista Christian Church).  Due to complaints from church tenants, she was told last Wednesday to move on.

She needs a safe place to sleep at night (outside).  If you have a niche behind your garage or the unused back half of a fenced back yard or any other somewhat protected place with alley access she could use in the evenings, won't you please think about offering it to this woman?  She leaves every morning and returns just before dark.  She doesn't ask for food or money;  she refuses city services and offers to take her to a shelter.  She has no substance abuse problems and seems satisfied with her lifestyle and unwilling to make any changes.

If any of the churches in the area have any suggestions, please come forward!

Please call Scott Steele at 710-7018 if you would like to help or just need further information.
