Nancy --

What's going on with the ART Rapid Transit proposal?

That's the question I get most often when Chris and I are out and about.

The truth is, we are still waiting on federal approval of the project but that hasn't stopped the project team from continuing to incorporate community concerns into the design and project plan in case the project is approved soon.

I've learned that there are still a lot of open questions and a lot of us are frustrated trying to get answers.

So, once I learned that updated plans (90% complete) were posted last week, I got busy planning a community meeting so that you could see them first hand.

I want to know what you think of the proposed project - and I want your input to be based on the most complete and latest information.

Join me next Wednesday, February 3rd, in our district for a community meeting on the status of the ART project.
  • What is the proposed Albuquerque Rapid Transit project and what will it mean for Central Avenue?
  • Share your concerns with the project team?
  • Debunk myths you may have heard.
  • See updated project plans block-by-block

This draft is an update of the existing Comprehensive Plan for both the City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County and is intended to accomplish the following:

  • Update information about relevant existing conditions
  • Better coordinate land use and transportation
  • Better reflect the importance of preserving agricultural heritage, including acequias
  • Provide guidance to update the City’s zoning code through the Integrated Development Ordinance
  • Incorporate goals and policies from the City’s existing Rank 2 Area Plans and Rank 3 Sector Development Plans
  • Better organize content

The public draft should be seen as a snapshot in time, indicating progress to date – the team appreciates your review and detailed comments to improve it.  Public meetings on this project are posted on the project website if you are interested in attending in person.

See you in the neighborhood!
