Bridgework to Close four Lanes on I-40 westbound

near Carlisle through Weekend

Albuquerque, NMThe New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) District Three will begin bridgework on Friday, April 1, at 9 p.m. through Monday, April 4, at 5 a.m. on I-40 west of Carlisle Boulevard (over the diversion channels). The four left lanes on I- 40 westbound only will be closed for approximately one mile at milepost 159 to 160 (Carlisle to approaching the Big I). Traffic on I-40 will be reduced to two right lanes. The Carlisle westbound on–ramp to I-40 will also be closed during that timeframe. Digital message boards will be activated informing motorists of closure. NMDOT recommends use of alternate routes to ease congestion.

Lanes are scheduled to re-open by Monday, April 4 by 5 a.m. Crews will be applying an epoxy overlay to the bridge for preservation. Due to the scope of the work, temperature sensitive conditions exist and crew working hours will be restricted. Speed limits in the construction zone will be reduced to 55 mph. Motorists should proceed through the work zone with caution and observe traffic control signs.  For project-related traffic updates visit www.nmroads.com.
