Civic Plaza Presents an Earth Day Celebration
Civic Plaza Presents a free, environmentally focused event in the Heart Of The City
ALBUQUERQUE, NM - EARTH DAY is coming! Civic Plaza Presents an Earth Day Celebration on Friday, April 22 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. This free event is proudly sponsored by Positive Energy Solar in conjunction with the Young Professionals of Albuquerque.
Earth Day Celebration: Love Your Environment is a community event that is open to all and will feature live music, exhibitors, vendors, locally sourced food, beer and wine, electronics recycling and more. This an opportunity to gather as a community to celebrate, participate, and contemplate this important day.
The event will have an array of exhibitors on hand to talk about Earth-conscious and environment-positive endeavors that help make our region a better place to live. In addition, OFFCenter Community Arts Project will be hosting a recycled materials arts and crafts making area for kids. Plant starts will be available for getting gardens growing. Local arts & crafts vendors will be on site as well. The event will also serve as a launch party for Albuquerque’s 2030 District, a community based effort to make Albuquerque an even more economically competitive and environmentally healthy community.
Music for the Earth Day will be provided by ¡Revíva! with special guest Lone Piñon. Reviva plays a locally flavored style of reggae and rock, and have made a name for themselves through their inspiring lyrics and unique sound, becoming one of Albuquerque’s best loved and most popular bands. Lone Piñon is a trio that plays the ensemble-driven violin music of Northern New Mexico, a colorful tradition that represents the forging of diverse cultures in this area. The modern musicianship that the members Lone Piñon bring to this music results in an exciting new birth for an old sound that is not to be missed.
Locally sourced cuisine from Dig & Serve and Food Karma will be served from the Silver Spoon, a top-of-the-line mobile kitchen in a newly remodeled Airstream trailer that will make its premier at the Earth Day event as Civic Plaza’s own pop-up restaurant. Local microbrews from Marble Brewery, Rio Bravo Brewing Company, Bosque Brewing Company and Boxing Bear Brewing will be available.
Attendees to this free event are encouraged to drop-off electronic devices they would like to have recycled. Electronics recycling is provided by Natural Evolution, New Mexico’s first recycler certified to the E-Stewards Standard for Responsible Recycling and Reuse of Electronics. They are also the first tribally owned, solar powered certified electronics recycling facility in the U.S. Electronics recycling is free (an $18.00 fee applies to the recycling of televisions only).

Dear Friend,
Do you have a child or know a student interested in applying to one of the United States Service Academies?
Between now and October 14, 2016 my office will be accepting applications from high school students and recent graduates seeking a service academy nomination. Being nominated is a significant honor and the application process is rigorous.
In order to provide students with information needed to apply for a service academy nomination, my staff will be on hand to answer questions at a series of information sessions at convenient locations across the state. These information sessions give prospective applicants and their families the opportunity to speak with representatives from each military service academy and in-state ROTC programs. It also allows applicants to speak to my staff and learn what is required to submit an application to my office.
Each academy prides itself on producing our nation's next generation of military leaders. Four of the five service academies--U.S. Military Academy (West Point), U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy--require a Congressional, Vice-Presidential, or service-connected nomination. Traffic Delays on Osuna
Osuna Road between I-25 and Chappell Road is currently being widened. The project will add one additional traffic lane between I-25 and Chappell. The project began in February and is expected to be completed by October. Due to the construction, Osuna will be reduced to one lane in each direction at times while the project is ongoing. Please avoid using Osuna during rush hour traffic to reduce delays. Alternate routes include Paseo Del Norte and Montano.
CRIME REDUCTION AND SAFETY TIPS
An ongoing scam has emerged throughout Bernalillo County. Unknown persons, identifying themselves as sworn law enforcement officers, will telephone area residents and advise the citizen that there is currently an active warrant out for their arrest. They state the warrant was issued for various things, such as, failure to go to jury duty and failure to pay fines.
The scammer will then demand the citizen purchase some type of credit card from a store (Green Dot, Visa, etc.) and then give the scammer the credit card number. Some citizens have believed this scam and have lost thousands of dollars.
Please be aware that a law enforcement officer WILL NEVER call and demand money over the phone. These scammers are very aggressive and threaten the citizen with arrest or asset forfeiture. Do not believe the lies. Hang up on these callers and do not respond if they call again.
Please report any instances of this scam to the Attorney General’s Office by using the below contact information.

Bernalillo County Water Restrictions to Take Effect April 1
Bernalillo County – Seasonal water restrictions outlined in the county’s Water Conservation Ordinance take effect Friday, April 1, and will be enforced through Oct. 31.
The water restrictions include rules for residents who live in the unincorporated areas of Bernalillo County, outside of the various city limits. The restrictions prohibit outside sprinkler watering between the hours of 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., the hottest part of the day, and prohibit general water waste.
In addition, if the New Mexico Drought Monitoring Committee determines certain drought conditions, additional restrictions may be imposed, including:
· Restrictions on planting new sod or turfgrass seed.
· Restrictions on vehicle washing at residences.
· Restrictions on the use of ornamental fountains.
· Further restrictions on outdoor watering.
Residents are encouraged to try additional water conservation efforts, beyond what is required by the ordinance. These will help to conserve water, and may cut down on household utilities costs. Efforts include:
· Tuning-up sprinkler systems.
· Checking for leaks.
· Making necessary repairs to watering equipment.
· Using water-efficient showerheads.
· Ensuring sprinkler heads do not overspray onto sidewalks or into the road.
Unincorporated Bernalillo County residents who are not Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority customers may also qualify for a number of water conservation initiatives, including free and reduced-cost high-efficiency toilets, rain barrels, and more.
For more tips on water conservation, how to fix leaks, county conservation programs and to read the full text of the Water Conservation Ordinance, visit www.bernco.gov/water. Make every drop count!
