South Valley Celebration Rescheduled for Sunday, May 15

Community cleanup Saturday, May 14

Bernalillo County – South Valley Celebration has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 15.

The event was originally scheduled for last weekend but was cancelled because of the weather.

The entire community is welcome to the South Valley Celebration, featuring great live music, local food and performances from South Valley schools and youth groups.

The May 15 event began in the 1990s as a way to celebrate the people and places that make the South Valley a special place.

This year’s event is again anchored by the outstanding citizens recognition, which honors community members for their volunteer work and contributions to improving the quality of life in Bernalillo County.

“Bernalillo County’s South Valley is blessed to have so many wonderful volunteers who donate their time and energy to help our community succeed,” Commission Chair Art De La Cruz says. “This is our chance to celebrate these contributions and say thank you.”

This year’s outstanding citizens include: Jose Alberto Loya, Andrew Garrison, Annittra Atler, Dr. Michael Montoya, Ernest Gonzales, Jessica Hernandez, Julie Radoslovich, Loren Vigil, Miguel Romero, Jeanette Baca and William Walker.

On Saturday May 14, school and other volunteer groups will gather at Westside Community Center for a community cleanup.

On Sunday May 15, festivities begin at 11 a.m. with a parade along Isleta Boulevard SW. The outstanding citizens celebration begins at noon.

Entertainment includes live music acts including Picoso, Round About and Miguelito. Youth and school groups are also scheduled.
