BernCo Open Space Activities are scheduled all Summer-long!

 

Open Space staff will be busy with the Master Naturalist training this summer, but there are still great opportunities with Family Fun Days and Historical Programs.  Also, all the Open Space trails are open daily from dawn to dusk.   Visit www.bernco.gov/openspace to learn about the properties and to obtain trail maps.

 

Summer Family Fun Days at Bachechi Open Space (9521 Rio Grande Blvd. NW)

Every Saturday from June to August from 5:00pm-8:00pm 

Cool down with us in the summer months with an evening stroll under the trees, get engaged with our nature packs or enjoy a picnic in the park under the pecan trees as the sun sets behind the Bosque at Bachechi Open Space for our Family Fun Day adventures.  A different theme will be featured each month with different hands-on activities each week.  No need to register for these free activities, just come down to Bachechi on Saturday’s where the whole family will have fun and learn something about the local environment. Sponsored by Bernalillo County Open Space and presented by Cottonwood Gulch.

 

·         June, Animals of the area

Stop by any week this month to explore evidence of animals in the grasslands, marsh, arboretum or along the Bosque. 

·         July, Arid Adaptation

Learn some desert adaptation strategies as you avoid the heat of the day. Stop by any week this month to adopt a plant and examine its desert strategies. 

·         August, Why is(n't) it raining?

Explore Bachechi before and after monsoons. Come in any week this month to help predict the weather, or just play in the mud. 

 

Special Summer Features include: 

Ø  Build and take home your own nature journal

Ø  Finish Bosque Bingo and get a prize. 

Ø  Join us each second Saturday to put on a puppet show featuring animals from around the Bosque and Bachechi. 

Villages Along the Rio Grande: Albuquerque to Isleta

At the Gutierrez-Hubbell House (6029 Isleta Blvd. SW)

In partnership with the Hubbell House Alliance, Bernalillo County Open Space presents this series that examines villages from historic Old Town traveling south to the Pueblo of Isleta, one neighborhood at time. To register visit  www.bernco.gov/openspace
