Well, some of the opposition like me do take public transportation often and enjoy it.  I think many others in the opposition do also but we realize this ART plan is out of date and not in compliance with the laws.  We would like to see a really good ART but this plan is not that one.  As a resident who lives on the edge of Coal Ave where the bottleneck on Central will be permanently moved with displaced traffic I have to oppose this plan to preserve what is left of our community where two main arteries, Lead and Coal, cut through nice neighborhoods.  We are already burdened with massive traffic problems and with this ART our communities will suffer much greater abuse, traffic, loss of homeowners moving out and general safety.  No, we are not opposed to a good ART with the benefits Jitka would desire.  But this plan does not deliver that, it only harms small businesses on Central and the long established neighborhoods along Coal and Lead.  I hear none of the supporters of this ART even mentioning that they are aware of the lack of an environmental impact study of this ART or are considering the negative impacts ART will have on our communities.

Let’s all try to figure out a way to get a good ART.

As a frequent public transportation rider, I was on the 66 last weekend and it was so overcrowded the bus driver had to skip bus stops making the people on the street wait even longer. I think some who oppose ART never take public transportation and fail to realize how broken the current system is.

I agree that there is a high level of public support.  I talk to many people who live on central and we all agree ART is badly needed.  Nob Hill is in serious decline and many businesses struggle to stay alive. ART will expand sidewalks, slow traffic and make nob hill a shoppers, eaters, visitors paradise.

All other points aside, I disagree with Bob Anderson that this project has very little public support. Lot of people support this project, but are not as loud as the opposition who litters the neighborhood with their pathetic yellow signs. Lot of people who support public transportation are also those who do not have an unlimited time and access to online venues like this server.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. ? The city has a new way to promote its Albuquerque Rapid Transit project during neighborhood meetings ? a virtual reality tour of one of the bus stations.

It?s like stepping into a rendering. With a smartphone inserted into a cardboard headset, viewers can now get a 360-degree look at what it?s like to stand in a new ART station in the middle of Central Avenue.

_____________

We are making some gains with our STOP THIS ART campaign.  The city is having now to go out with this tech gimmick to sell this project which has violated several laws and has very little public support.

I have not seen this virtual tour but I bet it shows nothing of the damages to the communities along Lead/Coal/Zuni that will be negatively impacted by this ART.

That is one of the mail points of the legal challenges, there was no environmental impact study done of this project which alone makes it an illegal and doomed project.  The city probably knew that once folks along the impacted new traffic routes through the highly dense communities would find out about it they would strongly come out against it, which they have.  This key information was left out of the public presentations as non-essential.  Hell and high water is is not unimportant.

I am glad so many businesses along Central got the resistance started as it now gives time to the rest of those impacted to get organized and supportive.
