Inaugural Bosque Chile Festival on August 20

Bosque Chile Festival,  A celebration of food, art, and culture on the Rio Grande

Join in the celebration of the chile harvest on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016 from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, 1701 Fourth St. SW.

This is a FREE event and festivities include entertainment, kids’ activities, arts and crafts vendors, chile and salsa sampling, food trucks, and chef demonstrations.

Local individuals and restaurants will compete in a chile and salsa taste-off. Attendees can pick the winner of the chile and salsa competition by purchasing a sampler wrist band for $5.

The National Hispanic Cultural Center’s torreon and museum will be open. Plan to stay late for the Soul Divine concert!

Carlito Springs Phase II Rehabilitation Project Public Meeting Scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016 • 6 p.m.

To be held at the Dep. James McGrane, Jr. Public Safety Complex, 48 Public School Road, Tijeras, NM

The Carlito Springs Phase II Rehabilitation Project proposes to restore the main house, develop on-site improvements such as utilities, parking, drainage, landscaping, signage and trails, and address site accessibility issues. This project also entails making programming decisions on the four existing cabins for future improvements.

The main house will support events, activities, and programming led by the Parks and Recreation Department Open Space program. Improvements to other portions of the site will help support environmental education and resource-based recreation, while also highlighting Carlito Springs’ historic qualities.

Carlito Springs is a 179-acre property located on the north side of Interstate 40 and next to the Village of Tijeras. It is bordered by private lands to the east, west and south and the Sandia Wilderness to the north. More information at www.bernco.gov/OpenSpace.

Alameda Drain & Trail Master Plan Public Meeting and Open House

Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016 • 6 – 8 p.m.

Stop in at any time to learn about the final preferred alignment and trail amenities. A short presentation at 6:30 p.m. will detail
the process and summarize the proposed drain and trail design solutions.

The master plan will guide the future development of a multi-use trail along the Alameda Drain. This is the final public involvement activity for the master plan, which will be finalized following a final comment period that will end on Sept. 1, 2016. A segment of the corridor will then move into the design and construction phases.

August, Why is(n't) it raining? Explore Bachechi before and after monsoons. Come

in any week this month to help predict the weather, or just play in the mud. Special

summer features include building and taking home your own nature journal, playing

Bosque Bingo and winning a prize. Join us the second Saturday to put on a puppet

show featuring animals from around the Bosque and Bachechi. Sponsored by

Learn how a class field trip to Nicaragua resulted in the study of a spider species

overlooked for 100 years. Tengella perfuga is a member of a spider family with

a puzzling mix of features that makes it difficult to place among other spiders.

Discussions about the evolutionary questions represented by this family, as well

as its habitat and distribution in the context of current land use change in Central

America.

County Clerk's Office Now Accepting New Passport Applications

The Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office now accepts new passport applications. The United States Department of State designated the

Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office as a passport acceptance facility to help meet high demand in the Albuquerque metropolitan area.

 

Citizens may apply by appointment Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the clerk’s office in Room 6029 at One Civic Plaza NW, 6th Floor, Albuquerque, NM 87102.

Applications for both adult and minor passport books and passport cards will be accepted.

Work as a Poll Official for the 2016 General Election

The Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office is now recruiting applicants to work during the General Election. Poll officials get paid for service and work during the early voting period and on Election Day. This is a great way to get involved in the election process while serving your community.

To be eligible, you must be a registered voter in Bernalillo County who is comfortable working with technology and who possesses excellent customer service skills. High school students 16 – 17 years of age can also apply to be student election clerks.

The online application process is fast and easy. Applicants may be required to take a skills assessment. Election training is required for all positions.
