Special Event: Isleta Pueblo Since Time Immemorial

Bernalillo County
– Come to the Gutierrez-Hubbell House for a journey back in time to the Pueblo of Isleta of centuries ago, and learn about the rich history of the Rio Grande at a special event, Sat., Sept. 24 at 10:30 a.m.

The Gutierrez-Hubbell House, 6029 Isleta Blvd. SW in the South Valley, will be hosting the culmination of the months-long series, “Villages along the Rio Grande,” with a presentation by renowned historian Richard Garcia. Unmatched in his knowledge of the history and genealogy of Isleta, Garcia will chronicle the pueblo’s story, from pre-Columbian beginnings to the modern day, with a special emphasis on identity, values and the 19th century Laguna migration.

All summer, Villages along the Rio Grande has brought to life the rich traditions of the Albuquerque area, traveling from Old Town Albuquerque, to now its final stop at Isleta Pueblo. Join the closing celebration of this journey with a live show of traditional dancers from Laguna Pueblo, and delicious lunch options from local food trucks.

Residents interested in registering for the event, or who would like more information, can call BernCo Open Space at (505) 314-0398, or go online to www.bernco.gov/openspace. This experience is free of charge.
