Bob, I wanted to be sure you saw the email back from SWD explaining the landscaping program.

Contrary to some concerns voiced on Nextdoor, the landscaping isn't being removed for good. Old and dying landscaping, including some unhealthy trees, maybe removed along Lead/Coal during the winter.

The SWD staff explained that they are working on the ongoing maintenance and will replace them with new items soon:

The trees will be replaced in the spring if they were not done this year. The vendor is working to make the area safe and aesthetic by cutting the stumps off and removing the tape.
We have received authorization to move forward with shrub replacement on 4 sections of Coal which should start within the next few weeks.

Tom,

Yea,nit looked bad, just like the crash a few months ago into my wall.  I just fear the day when these crashes are going to hit kids or elderly people trying to cross Coal/Lead on foot.

The city cleaned out a lot of plants along side my house on the Coal side too, and I see a lot missing from up near Carlisle.  It seems we should have been informed of what is going on.  The city sees this as just a couple streets for vehicles and we see it as our neighborhood, that is where the conflict of percepions exists.

Thomas,

I just passed by there and it looked like three vehicles crashed into each.  Did someone run a stop sign on the N/S again?
