Albuquerque Police Department Unveils New Application for Smart Phones

New Community Engagement Application Will Further Transparency and Community Policing

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Residents will now be able to access Albuquerque Police Department services in  new and innovative ways. The City of Albuquerque continues to expand its technological advancements and is launching a new mobile application for smart phones. The community engagement application “ABQ Police” will allow residents to file non-emergency police reports, receive community alerts, submit live crime tips, and even access real-time crime information.

Mayor Richard J. Berry and Police Chief Gorden E. Eden Jr. believe the new app increases communication between law enforcement and the community. It also gives residents access to the department at their fingertips.

Albuquerque remains on the forefront of implementing digital and smartphone technology. Albuquerque has been recognized by the Center for Digital Government as a top-10 digital city since 2013; ranking number 6 in the nation in 2016. In May 2017, Governing Magazine and Living Cities ranked Albuquerque the nation’s top resident-involved city. ABQ Police is another example of the City’s leadership in use of technology to engage our community and improve our quality of life.

Developed by MobilePD, the ABQ Police application can be downloaded for free. MobilePD has created apps for cities like Baltimore, MD, Austin, TX, and Portland, OR. The app also allows residents to send photos, and information concerning crimes anonymously and even submit tips directly to Crime Stoppers for possible rewards.
