Dear Friends:   I'd like to invite you to my next monthly neighborhood luncheon on Wednesday, June 21st, noon-1:00pm, at the Bernalillo County-Wellesley Health Center, 3rd Floor Training Room, 2400 Wellesley NE.  This month’s speaker is Damon Martinez, who will discuss and answer your questions regarding the HOPE initiative.  The New Mexico Heroin and Opioid Prevention and Education (HOPE) Initiative is a collaborative effort between the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center with the overriding goal of reducing the number of opioid-related deaths in New Mexico. In 2013, President Obama nominated Damon P. Martinez to become the 45th U.S. Attorney for the District of New Mexico. Martinez' nomination was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate and he was sworn into office in 2014 and served until resigning in 2017. Before being appointed U.S. Attorney, Martinez served as an assistant U.S. Attorney, assistant New Mexico Attorney General and as a Special Assistant District Attorney in three different judicial districts in New Mexico. A native New Mexican, Damon graduated from St. Pius X High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree, a Juris Doctor and a Master of Business Administration from the University of New Mexico. He holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves serving as an Adjunct Professor assigned to the Criminal Section, Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School. This is a Brown Bag lunch.  You bring a sandwich and we will provide the  beverages.
