As a small business owner, I fear for extreme financial devastation to businesses.  I have put trust in our government officials both at the state and federal level to help us transition.
There is now an inequitable situation where large box stores are able to open as essential and don't always enforce social distancing.  In the very near future, my hope is that our leadership in NM stops the financial bleeding and puts its trust on the small businesses to enforce protocols and guidelines for conducting business in their establishments.  The first part of healing in any situation is Awareness,  we are now very aware of how deadly this virus is and can take precautions.

As for my husband and I, we have been both distracted and cautious by the restoration of our jewelry store after  burglars stole trucks and used one to drive into our store.  We have taken above and beyond sanitary measures; have not allowed the trades to cross over, only allowing two people in our store at a time to work. We wear masks when we are on site and out in public and wipe down everything.

I want our government to put some faith back into the people, businesses and religious organizations and layout protocols we can all follow to keep us safe.  If large businesses can function, so can small businesses who have  deeper meaningful relationship with their customers and will have a greater investment in keeping customers, staff and themselves safe.

Be Well and stay safe!

Thank you, Peter.  My friend Brian who is from New York let me know the mandatory time for masks in New York starts tomorrow and the order is extended to May 15, 2020 for New York due to the huge crisis there with so many cases there.  I feel very lucky and fortunate to be in New Mexico where our governor has a good grasp of the situation.  My thoughts for potential reopening of New Mexico could include masks, social distancing and possibly temperature checks at restaurants for customers who want to eat at the restaurant.  Just my thoughts while the States and the world go through this difficult time.

I don't know what New Mexico and NM cities are doing to plan for a return to some kind of normal. The state is dealing with a growth in the number of cases. I suspect that dealing with that upward trend is the priority.

I do know that Cuomo's mask order was not, except in the most general way, a step toward that return. Here is what Cuomo said yesterday, as he was announcing the order:

And Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of New York reiterated his call for federal assistance to ramp up testing, both for the virus and for antibodies.

“The more testing, the more open the economy. But there’s not enough national capacity to do this,” Mr. Cuomo, a Democrat, said at his daily briefing in Albany. “We can’t do it yet. That is the unvarnished truth.”

As the governor spoke, a PowerPoint slide behind him said, “WE NEED FEDERAL SUPPORT.”

What is Albuquerque, NM and Santa Fe and the rest of New Mexico's Plan for slowly transitioning back to normal as much as possible.  I read New York is going to have people wear masks in order to slowly transition back to normal.
