That’s a myth: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/can-unlock-car-door-tennis-ball/. Also, modern cars do not need and should not be “warmed up.” Maybe in MN, but they have engine heaters up there. We’re good here.

This may be erroneous info but ~ I was told that newer cars with electronic locks are pretty easy to break into (all you need is a tennis ball and a firm whack, according to what I was told). If that's true, running your car to warm up - with it locked - well, not a good idea.

Hi neighbors,

APD is giving us a heads up that they are seeing more auto thefts in the mornings when people start their cars and leave them running to warm up.

To help prevent these, avoid running your engine without being present at the car, and avoid keeping any items in the car that could attract a break in.

Take care and stay safe!

Sincerely,
Mark
