Thank you, Mark. Coming from New England, where we don't(!), I was surprised to learn how many warm up their cars here. It's generally a waste of fuel
and a set-up for car thieves. My granddaughter's boyfriend's van (being warmed up) was the one in that terrible theft and crash that killed 2 people.
And from the Washington Post:
Auto experts today say that you should warm up the car no more than 30 seconds before you start driving in winter. "The engine will warm up faster being driven," the EPA and DOE explain. Indeed, it is better to turn your engine off and start it again than to leave it idling. (As many readers pointed out after this post was first published, it's always important to be careful driving in winter, and clear your windshield of any ice.)Hi neighbors,
APD is giving us a heads up that they are seeing more auto thefts in the mornings when people start their cars and leave them running to warm up.
To help prevent these, avoid running your engine without being present at the car, and avoid keeping any items in the car that could attract a break in.
Take care and stay safe!
Sincerely,
Mark
