A little more on that cannabis question, Karen. If an applicant were to come in with a request for cannabis retail that is closer than 600 feet to another cannabis retail that would trigger a need for a conditional use approval. That would involve a public hearing before the zoning hearing examiner with public input. I would anticipate our association would put out the same kind of information and seek positions of neighborhood members. Kind regards

Thank you for the question, Karen.

Liquor license requests are automatically heard in a public hearing by the liquor hearing officer. Public input is invited.

Cannabis retail is permissive in the MX- M zone district.  So when an individual applies for that approval it is an administrative decision by city staff. There is no public notification. And there is no request for public input.

Does that address your question? Kind regards, Gary

Thanks Gary.  What I find mystifying is why neighbors get this kind of detailed info and the right to weigh in on the applications but the same process isn’t available where a cannabis venue is concerned.   Why is that?  Many thanks for any information you can provide for us, Gary.

Friends and Neighbors.

On Feb 27 we sent you the info below. The next day we provided the missing info on the operation.

On March 1 we evaluated neighborhood input. We received 15 responses indicating support along the lines of too many vacancies, the space has long been a bar, nice addition, qualifications look good.

. We received one in opposition, stating it is another bar.

With general support and few expressions of concern it is our policy not to express a position to the liquor hearing officer which generally results in approval. This it he path we took here.

Thank you to all who participate in this type of dialog. Our community wins when we talk together.

Good luck to Social House and Gather.
