I live directly across the street from the new Public House, and have expressed my opinions regarding the conditional use permit process last Fall. We won the battle of eliminating seating along the Hermosa Drive frontage during preliminary discussions with Andrew and Ashley, who were very patient and accommodating. 

I agree with Jean Bernstein regarding the parking, however. Hermosa Dr is a very quiet street, made quieter since ART constructed the pin curbs to prevent traffic crossing Central. I know for a fact that parking for Public House will spill over onto Hermosa. It's unavoidable. 

We discussed this issue during the conditional use permit process, and I suggested that parking could be shared in some fashion with the Route 66 Veterinary, which has ample parking (thanks Route 66!). I'm not sure whether Andrew and Ashley have arranged an agreement, but I suspect not. In additon, we discussed street signage last Fall to discourage patrons from parking on Hermosa, but no one will pay attention to any installed signage if the parking is convenient. 

With that said, the alcohol permit process is as inevitable as the conditional use approval was. I hope that Andrew and Ashley will be good neighbors through the development of relationships with those of us who will be most affected by this new venue.

I agree. Another meeting would just mean more delays for a great business who believes in our neighborhood and potentially scare away other businesses who might want to fill the vacancies. I fully support this and look forward to going to their location. Please do not make this harder than it has to be. Businesses have been through enough the last two years.

The City's Hearing examiner approved the conditional use of this property as a taproom/tasting room on October 1, 2021 subject to the conditions negotiated with the neighborhood.  The applicants have proved to be responsible business owners at their other establishment serving alcohol - High and Dry Brewing - which also abuts a residential neighborhood.  I fully support their application for a liquor license at this location.

At 5 pm on April 13 NHNA will evaluate input received. When input is neutral or positive we generally don’t develop an association position which results in approval.  If input suggests strong concerns or directors have strong concerns we will call a special meeting and alert the community through our email list.

 

Areas of concern sometimes form around expected impact on community safety and quality of life and factors including but not limited to calls for APD service at applicant's existing operations and security plans. Locations near Residential Zone Districts (IDO 14-16-2-3) can be problematic, particularly if affected neighbors oppose. Hours of service and services offered are not generally part of the hearing officer’s consideration, but may affect the association’s position. Naturally, neighbor input is crucial.


We will notify the email list, the liquor hearing officer, and the applicant of the association’s action. 

 

All members of the community are free to provide written comments to the hearing officer or attend the CABQ hearing in a personal capacity.
