Subject: Nob Hill Tours Tony Edaakie Murals
Yesterday was a good day for Nob Hill as we viewed the remarkable 1953 Tony Edaakie murals at the DeAnza Motor Lodge.
Warm thanks to each person who made it so wonderful.
-Hilleña Elizabeth Chestnut shared her lifetime of knowledge leading tours in the mural space
-Jim Trump, David Peters, and Christina Rhoderick made the lodge available and hosted so graciously
-Jean Bernstein and Bob Veracka of Flying Star Café donated the delicious pastries for the social time
-Hilleños Beth Silbergleit and Dennis Trujillo managed entry and donations
-30 neighbors shared in the tour
It was a joy to view the murals in the company of Keith and Chandra, two grandchildren of Tony Edaakie, and their families. It was the first time any of them had seen the murals. They were so generous in sharing their experiences at the Shalako festival.
A neighbor wrote this morning: “We appreciated the remarks by Elizabeth and having her and Keith and family there to provide context. It was fun to have the refreshments too, for visiting. The murals exceeded our expectations and made us realize again, and in the middle of Albuquerque, how fortunate we are to be in a place with such ancient history. We were humbled.”
Donations were collected and will be sent to the Ancestral Rich Treasures of Zuni, the Zuni artist co-op.
Sorry we couldn’t get everyone into the tour. We hope to repeat it in the future.
