I support Jana adding cannabis to her shelves. Having to move sounds terrible at best and potentially destructive at worst. Good luck, I hope all goes well!!

Thank you all for your feedback.  We would like to clear up a couple items for better clarification to the email sent out on behalf of the shop.  We have been an established Holistic Herb Shop for over 6 years and simply are adding some cannabis products to our existing shelves.

Our business is a locally owned family business as we are looking to grow our Herb Shop.

Our current customers have expressed concerns having to shop elsewhere and feel at ease shopping with our establishment.

We are here to serve our customers which is why we would like to add Cannabis products and have our products fit the needs of our customers.

We are located in Nob Hill and need a conditional permit due to the fact we are next to a med/rec dispensary.  The rules  went into effect years after the fact that we have been established at this location, so to move my shop to another location takes funds that Covid has taken away from businesses and is not doable at this time.
So to simply add additional herbal products to our shelves is what we are planning to do with our approved permits.

Thank you again for your time.

Even before it was legal,  My 17 year old would walk to slices and she was offered other drugs on a regular basis.  I know it was not a legit business but I think less drugs in the area is still a better idea

I wonder about cannabis not being consumed at the outlets.
As I pass back and forth by the cannabis outlet at the apex of Coal/Lead/Washington/Zuni I see lots of cars at times there for hours on end.

I lived and worked in a state for a long time in my youth where alcohol was sold only in state run outlets, not gas stations like here.  They had a lot less DWI than we do here.  That might be a model for cannabis and alcohol here.

I thought that there was some  600ft.  rule that  one cannabis business had to be from the other. There is a difference  between  a business that sells cannabis vs a business  selling alcohol. People  consume alcohol on premises at these places and propose a greater risk of DWI, causing accidents and possibly  death. Those buying cannabis do not consume on premises, since it is illegal. Which is the worst of two evils????

Just a personal view here...  I am against it.  It seems to me that there are several establishments already all around the City that we do not "need" to allow exceptions in any portion of town.  It already feels like there is a dispensary on every other corner.   Also,  Nob Hill doesn't need to attract this type of clientele to our neighborhood.  I read many emails that are against the allowance of those that sell alcohol I dont think cannabis is any better.

Neighbors,

The Board of the NHNA will soon be reviewing a request for a conditional use to allow for cannabis retail within 600ft of another cannabis retail location. Because cannabis retail has only recently been legalized by the state, the NHNA has not heard neighbors' opinions on this topic and does not have a policy for cases like these. We would like neighborhood input. In particular, we would like to understand the neighborhood's views on the density of cannabis retail locations along Central, from Girard to Washington.

Here are some details about this case and the process.

From the ZHE, the details of the request are:
VA-2022-00155 Project# PR-2019- 002179 Jana Quintero requests a conditional use to allow for cannabis retail within 600 ft of another cannabis retail location for Lot 6, Block 8, Mesa Grande Addn, located at 4012 Central Ave SE, zoned MX-M [Section 14-16-4- 3(D)(35)(c)]

A facilitated meeting with the applicant was held on July 18th, and the meeting report is attached. As part of the meeting, the NHNA proposed the applicant could have an open house so people could understand the business. The applicant has responded by offering a shop tour on August 5th.

As a reminder, the NHNA has no legal authority to approve or deny a conditional use; that is the role of the Zoning Hearing Examiner (ZHE). However, the NHNA does provide input on all ZHE requests that fall within the NHNA's boundaries.

The applicant will present their request at the regular meeting of the NHNA Board of Directors on August 10th.

You can send feedback by replying to this thread, emailing the Board directly at theboard@nobhill-nm.com, or in person at the NHNA Board meeting on August 10th.
