| Valley Community Policing Council Meeting on August 25
The Valley Community Policing Council(CPC) will meet on Thursday, August 25 at 6:00 p.m., both in person at the Johnny Tapia Wells Park Community Center, and by Zoom. The meeting will include a presentation by Glen St. Onge, Director of the Bernalillo County Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion Program. The LEAD model works with the community to help individuals at risk of non-violent criminality related to drug use, prostitution, and poverty, and assists these individuals in finding resources in behavioral treatment programs. Such programs have been shown to save money by reducing utilization of the criminal justice system, and reducing personal harm by promoting improvements in housing, employment, and income/benefits in those referred. | Animal Welfare Department Hosting Adoption Clinic This Weekend
The Animal Welfare Department needs your help. There are 800 pets in our city that need good homes, and our shelters are full. Animal Welfare is hosting an adoption clinic this weekend, Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28, at the Eastside and Westside shelters, and the Everyday Adoption Center located in the Eubank PetSmart. The adoption fee is waived for all pets. Each adoption will include spay or neuter, a microchip, required vaccinations, and one free initial vet visit. For dogs, you will receive one free dog training class. This is a great opportunity to bring home a new furry friend.
