To spin off that ~

Why not announce it via the local news stations?

And now, a question for thoughts a plenty ~

If it were not a test, but a real application of the siren, what are we all to do???

Hello,
The siren you heard for 15 minutes was UNM testing their siren alert which they do every semester. As an affiliate, I am signed up for Lobo alerts, which warns the campus of criminal activity and coming siren tests. It would be nice if they allowed non-affiliates to sign up too.

I also heard the air alert siren.  Isn't it often a standard test of the siren?  Normally would be used for notification of a tornado or major storm headed our way?

And a lot of police activity and overhead helicopter usually means a significant crime problem in the area.

Have you considered asking at the Nob Hill - University ECHO?

How do we find out in real and relevant time what is going on when we see police activity in and above (helicopters and planes) our homes and neighborhood?  Or how do we follow up a specific event?

Usually we know and learn nothing of significant police/criminal activity near us that we should be aware, even as it is occurring.

For example, last Tuesday the air alert siren sounded for about 15 minutes in the morning of something but there was no way to find out what was the problem or where.

I agree w Robert- we need to know what is going on in real time. I've been disappointed w what ECHO offers - appears to me to be a glorified zoom session approach. Lots of talk little action or information.

We need data in real time. Similar to homelessness data counts as successfully done in 100 cities:

Respectfully offered,
Meta.

Good info ~

and I'd like to ask if there's some way to know what happened (already over) and where.

Was it Friday night? Sounded like gunfire not far from my place, west of Carlisle .... but I don't know how far away. About two rounds of rounds (so 5 to 10 shots) and a very loud, lasting boom. Within minutes, sirens aloud, sounding urgent and seemed to be moving further west as they traveled.

If nothing else, it would be nice to hear back if anyone else heard it - it was 12:30 am.

I heard those shots, too, Karen. Very loud and not good to be woken up in the middle of the night by them. Scared the hell out of my dog.

Bob, the air siren was UNM testing it's alert system. They do it every six months or a year.

Does anyone know of a program that you could put on your computer that would describe all the crime activity that has happened in Albuquerque, NM in say the past few weeks?  If we had a program like that and it could be put on a MAC or PC or Linux Computer then we could go to our block and find out what happened without having to go to the trouble of going into the local Albuquerque Police Department to request information on what happened during that day and time.

Thank you,

(The issue in my neighborhood could have been as simple as a driver speeding through the neighborhood who happened to get a traffic ticket.  However, the fact that the Crime Scene Mobile Unit was nearby on MorningSide next to Carlisle made me think the issue may have been greater than just a speeding ticket or those 2 could be 2 unrelated incidents.  I live on the block of Chula Vista by the way in Nob Hill in the NE.
